“Unfortunately, the American dream died.” Emigration to Europe is a life opportunity

I mentally live between these two continents. As a British student in the United States in the early 1990s, I thought it was the greatest country on earth. I married the American and in the USA we were born children, but we landed in Paris. For decades of travel to the USA, I watched the life of my American friends and relatives. Now I feel that even putting aside the issues of Trump and Freedom in this country, Most Europeans just live better than most Americans.
There is one big exception – very rich people. If you belong to the group of wealthy Americans waiting for another reduction in Congress taxes, then congratulations – Trump's administration at least tries to manage the country for the benefit of you. In the case of European governments, this is unlikely. Similarly, most Americans working in the technology or financial industry will consider a little dynamic Europe to be frustrating.
Life win
Apart from them, however, there are about 99 percent. a population for which emigration to Europe would be a life win. Adults under the age of 35 would be the greatest potential beneficiaries of such a removal. In the largest American cities they cannot afford to buy a home or even rent a babysitter. At the same time, they are so young that they can learn a different language and learn a new circle of friends.
Emigration has never been easier. Remote work allows you to find a favorable compromise – you can earn an American salary while living in the Mediterranean. The technology has softened the longing for the house – you can cross the ocean, but stay in all your groups on Whatsapp. Those who cannot learn languages will easily get along in English in most European countries.
And the Fortress Europe, so reluctant to receive people from poor countries, leaves one gate constantly open – for Americans. Countries from Portugal to the Netherlands grant the right to stay even to those who could not get a car loan in their country.
Comfort of the guardianship state
Upon arrival in Europe, earnings may decrease, but the cost of living will decrease for sure. According to the World Bank, the income per capita in the euro area, after taking into account the purchasing power, amounts to about three quarters of income in the USA. Americans in Europe may therefore be forced to reduce expenditure on consumer goods. On the other hand, they will afford apartments, education and health care.
The American organization Kaiser Family Foundation reports that the average family health insurance premium in the US is 25,000. $ 572 (PLN 96 thousand 212). This is more than the average pay after taxation in a large part of Europe. Entertainment is also cheaper in it. An international organization I know invited employees of its national branches for a joint dinner in Madrid. When the bill came, the Americans were so surprised by his amount that they took a picture of him, saying that they would frame him in the frame And they will hang in their office in Washington.
For ambitious Americans, moving to Europe is associated with considerable mental cost – no their professional achievements in European countries will gain the respect of US residents who consider Europe to be a holiday resort. Mental benefits, however, prevail.
Life in the USA is a bit like running your own insurance company – it is associated with the need to constantly plan the budget for future diseases, tuition fees, etc. In Europe, all this is done by the guardian state, which ensures great comfort. By moving to Europe, you will also gain more free time, taking into account the fact that Europeans work an hour a day less than the Americans. Instead of forever comparing yourself with people who are richer than you, in Europe you can be the richest person in your new circle.
European dream
And, what is important, despite the large political polarization of Europe, the daily mental conflict here cannot compare with it in the US Trump. My European friend who lives in the American south told me that It happens that for many days he does not leave the house to avoid meeting Trump's supporters. Americans always assume that he moved there for a better life. He always suits them that he did not – he came for an interesting job, but the quality of life is worse.
Moving to Europe is finally beneficial to health. American life – full of flue gas, striving and processed food – is a daily attack on the body. The US obesity indicator, of 42.9 percent, is almost four times higher than in France.
To sum up, Europe exceeds the United States in terms of three key indicators of good life in the 21st century. It has four years longer life, a higher sense of happiness and less than half of the carbon dioxide emissions per person. And all this achieved with a much lower debt ratio to GDP.
– Unfortunately, the American dream died Trump announced after leaving the golden stairs in Trump Tower in 2015, when he started his presidential candidacy. Instead, it's better to try to experience a European sleep.
