The Russian authorities are fighting WhatsApp. The platform issued an important statement

The day before, on August 13, the Federal Supervision Service in the Roskomnadzor Communications Zone announced “partial” limitation of connections by WhatsApp and Telegram. The office explained that the decision was made because of “numerous complaints of citizens” who complained that the mentioned messengers “became the main voice services used for fraud and extorting money, engaging in subversive and terrorist activities.”

The Ministry of Digitization said that access to connections will be restored when messengers meet Requirements for compliance with Russian law. A member of the State Duma Committee for Information Policy Anton Nemkin noted that foreign messengers for many years allegedly “show complete reluctance to comply with Russian regulations”, in this they do not remove “illegal materials” and “do not meet the requirements for personal data protection”.

After the decision of Roskomnadzor, Telegram stated that the messenger was actively fighting the use of his platform for “harmful purposes”, including to call for diversion, violence and fraud. “In addition, Telegram first used detailed privacy settings for calls, thanks to which every telegram user can choose from whom he wants to receive calls or completely disable them” – emphasized the website representatives.

Earlier, the well -informed source of Forbes announced that the authorities began to block calls on WhatsApp and a telegram at the request of the “Big Four” of telecommunications operators.
