What must happen for Karol Nawrocki to join the Peace Council?

— The Act on International Agreements states that in order to sign an international agreement, the consent of the Council of Ministers in the form of a resolution is required. The invitation was addressed personally to President Karol Nawrocki. So the president would have to show the initiative that he wants to join this Council and the government will then consider it and possibly adopt a “yes” or “no” resolution – he continued, answering PAP's question.

Karol Nawrocki convenes the National Security Council

President Karol Nawrocki convened a meeting of the National Security Council for February 11. One of the issues discussed will be invitations to the Peace Council. — I am preparing to provide the president with an assessment of all opportunities and threats related to this Council. There are also image threats, for example for him, because, as we know, Belarus, a country that is not necessarily friendly towards us, has already become a member of the Council. The Russian Federation was invited even when Putin is bombing Kiev, the deputy prime minister emphasized.

He noted that the structure of the Council itself “is very unusual.” “It is unclear what the status of this Council and the status of its chairman with absolute prerogatives will be after his term as President of the United States ends,” he added.

— It is unclear what will happen to the money then. And we would like to know in advance. Since the president put it on the Security Council's agenda, it means that he would probably like to join it, said the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Radosław Sikorski says it straight: I want to hear it

He noted that “other opposition representatives said that this billion dollars should be paid for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.”

— Today, one billion dollars is PLN 3.6 billion. And this is in a situation where we have both challenges in the country and a fighting Ukraine. So, I want to hear why the Polish taxpayer should rebuild Gaza, which we did not destroy, and even in an indirect way. Because if we want to allocate money for the reconstruction of Gaza, there is a development budget, there is a humanitarian budget. This can be done directly, he argued.

— I don't see any tsunami of requests or enthusiasm among the Polish public for rebuilding Gaza. But the president certainly has his arguments, which the government will obviously listen to out of respect for the head of state, Sikorski concluded.
