Fraudsters have updated their scheme to deceive Russians under the guise of courier delivery

Fraudsters have updated their deception scheme under the guise of courier delivery and are now using the personal data of the supposed “senders.” The Department for Combating the Illegal Use of Information and Communication Technologies of the GUMVD of the Russian Federation for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region warned about this in the Telegram channel.
Attackers call or write to their victims allegedly from relatives, using their personal data, such as names, surnames, location and even photos from social networks. In this way, they are trying to obtain an SMS code, access to an account on State Services, bank card and account data, as well as personal data.
Such a scheme could allow them not only to issue loans and transfer money from accounts, but also to include the victim’s data in their new schemes.
Law enforcement officers urge you to ignore those “couriers” who initiate correspondence and ask to pay or confirm something. In the case when the parcel is sent from a “relative”, you need to find out directly from him whether this is so.
“Remember: real delivery never asks for codes from SMS and does not require logging into State Services to receive the package,” the cyber police recommends.
