Krasnoyarsk Territory joined the environmental action “Green Wave”

22 May 17:26

The Krasnoyarsk Territory joined the Green Wave environmental campaign. It started in May in the Volga region, and then continued in Moscow and Siberia. This week it takes place in Nizhny Novgorod, Novokuznetsk, Irkutsk and Krasnoyarsk, with the Urals and Kuban ahead.

Participants of the “Green Wave” plant plants in populated areas that are best suited for the local climate: cedars and oaks, apple and pear trees, lilacs and lindens. Iconic city locations are chosen for the campaign: in Divnogorsk it is the Yenisei embankment, in Sayanogorsk it is the central boulevard, in Angarsk it is a youth art residence. The capital's event took place at Moscow State University – new blue spruce trees appeared on the famous university alleys, and white and pink peonies appeared near the main building.

“Green Wave” Oleg's fund share Deripaska “Volnoe Delo”. For the ninth year in a row, it brings together a variety of participants: from office workers to athletes and kindergarteners. Often residents join the action spontaneously – they pass by, see people with shovels and stay to help. The youngest participants in the action are no more than five years old, and the older ones are from the times when urban greening was part of Komsomol construction projects.

“When I was an active Komsomol member, we built the Krasnoyarsk hydroelectric power station and planted trees on the Yenisei embankment. Now look how tall they are – what birches, what beauty! I want my grandchildren to be just as happy, to come here and say: here my grandmother made us beautiful,” shares Valentina Shalaeva, a participant in the “Green Wave” campaign in Divnogorsk.

Trees and shrubs make life in the city much more comfortable: they create shade and reduce noise levels, and most importantly, they clean and humidify the air, absorbing harmful gases and trapping dust. Therefore, this year the event includes the industrial cities of the federal Clean Air project – Bratsk, Krasnoyarsk and Novokuznetsk – recalling how important green belts are around residential areas and industrial enterprises.

“Residents of green areas feel better – there are scientific studies that confirm this. But this is clear even without science: a city where there are many large, wide, spreading trees is a city in which it is pleasant to live, especially in the summer. Immediately a completely different mood,” says Igor Yatsenko, a researcher at the Main Botanical Garden named after N.V. Tsitsin of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

This season, the Green Wave will cover 40 cities, including Sayanogorsk, Divnogorsk and Achinsk. Over the entire period of the campaign, more than 12 thousand new trees and shrubs appeared in the regions of Russia.
