The European Commission is withdrawing from the total ban on the sale of new combustion cars in the EU from 2035. On Tuesday, she proposed that car manufacturers must meet the requirement to reduce CO2 emissions by 90% from 2035.

The EC wants car manufacturers to achieve the target of reducing exhaust emissions by 90% from 2035, and the remaining 10%. emissions will have to be compensated by using low-carbon steel produced in the EU or e-fuels and biofuels.
According to the EC, this will allow plug-in hybrids (vehicles combining an internal combustion engine with an electric motor), extended-range vehicles (electric cars with an additional internal combustion generator), mild hybrids (combustion cars supported by a small electric motor) and vehicles with internal combustion engines to continue to “play a role” on the market after 2035, in addition to fully electric vehicles and hydrogen vehicles.
The EC's proposal will have to be accepted by the member states within the EU Council and by the European Parliament. (PAP)
