The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Oana Ţoiu, met in Washington on Wednesday night with the head of American diplomacy, Marco Rubio. The US State Department has published images of the meeting of the two officials, and then Oana Țoiu offered some details about the discussions during the meeting, which she cataloged as a “excellent”.

She stated that the presence of the US in Romania also has a discouragement effect of potential intrusions, but also a stability effect in the region and regarding the neighbors of our country, who are not members of the North Atlantic Alliance or of the European Union. “We agreed together that it is very important for this presence to continue its role not only for Romania, but also for the region, in fact,” said Ţoiu. The head of the Romanian diplomacy added that they discussed, in terms of defense, of “the production related to the military area of ​​armament and current investments, but also the opportunities for future investment in Romania”.

“It was an excellent meeting because for both Romania and the United States, our strategic partnership is important, both in the security part and in the common energy projects and in human ties, in fact, which have developed against this confidence built by the strategic partnership. The foreign minister said that they agreed that the presence of US military in Romania must continue.

They have already made this decision that President Nicuşor Dan has announced in Parliament, to increase the presence in Romania, including an important factor for them in the strategy they have to the Middle East. Oana Ţoiu is located in the USA, where she had political-diplomatic consultations with the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio. He is the first Romanian official who discusses with high -ranking representatives of the Trump administration. Marco Rubio is also the national security counselor of President Donald Trump.

According to the Agenda announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Romanian Foreign Minister has scheduled in Washington and a meeting with representatives of the American member companies – Romanian Business Council (AMRO).

Oana Țoiu also said that Marco Rubio also discussed about the meeting between US President Donald Trump and his Romanian counterpart, Nicuşor Dan.

“Yes, we also discussed the meeting of the presidents and here we are lined up regarding the possibility of having it in the first quarter of the following year,” said the head of Romanian diplomacy.

President Nicuşor Dan announced on September 15 that the official visit to the US will take place at the beginning of next year. Dan will discuss with American officials about security and economy.

He stressed that he intends to come up with concrete results from the US visit.

“I had a telephone conversation with Mr. Trump, immediately after I was invested. In that telephone conversation, he invited me to the US on an official visit. This official visit will take place, without discussion, most likely at the beginning of next year. (…) More important than a visit is the content of this visit. Place, I want to be sure that Romania will go with all the proposals related to the Security, including military collaboration, including the American military present in Romania.

Cristian Diaconescu, former presidential adviser on national security, issued on request, also spoke on Saturday, at Digi24, about working for a meeting of President Nicușor Dan with Donald Trump in Washington.

Diaconescu stressed that the head of state wants this visit to be a substance, not an image.

“What does this mean? It means that in the bilateral dialogue it will establish at the highest level an agenda, a roadmap, a path and a package of agreements. I want to tell you that this type of attitude worked including two to three days ago, in the Donald Trump-King Charles meeting,” said Diaconescu.

In the statements made in Bucharest, before traveling to the US, the head of Romanian diplomacy said that one of his visit to Washington is to prepare a visit from President Nicușor Dan to the White House.
