PHOTO Wedding against the clock at the “little church in the sea”: The place where the tide decides the time of the wedding

A small church from the 12th century, located on an island in Wales, turns any wedding into an unusual challenge, according to the BBC.

St Cwyfan's Church in Anglesey, known as the 'little church in the sea', recently hosted a ceremony where the sea set the starting time.

Bride Alex Spall, 48, had to plan her wedding around the tide chart to ensure she could make it to the altar on the island of Cribinau, off the Welsh coast.

Although a popular venue for weddings and christenings, the location is only accessible at low tide. For this reason, Alex asked guests to wear sneakers instead of high heels to safely cross the sand. The bride wore sneakers to the church, where she changed into her wedding shoes.

“Luckily, when I managed to get hold of the tide table and saw the times were published for that month, I knew it was going to be fine. We knew there were a couple of hour slots we could manage, so we were very relieved,” said Alex Spall.

She added that the moment was a special one for those in attendance: “I think everyone was actually a bit stunned; they were all blown away by the romance of the whole scene and how beautiful it all was.”

The place of worship dates back to the 12th century and is located on a tidal island. Although a breakwater was built for access, high tides sometimes make the building inaccessible.

In the late 19th century, erosion caused some tombs to start falling into the sea, and the building was on the verge of being abandoned before it was restored.
