Almost two thousand tourists from Russia may be in Bangkok. Where the aftershocks started right now.
There are many Russians who are not tourists living in Bangkok, ATOR reported. There have been no reports of injured Russian travelers yet, and there is no information about the destruction of hotel buildings. There is no panic in the resort areas of the country; tourists in Phuket and Pattaya continue to relax as usual.
As of 11:40 Moscow time, one local died – a worker died under the rubble. At least 50 people were injured.
The Thai government is warning of possible aftershocks. The authorities declared a state of emergency. In Myanmar, a bridge more than a kilometer long collapsed, and the historic Mandalay Palace was partially destroyed. The earthquake occurred 33 km southwest of the city of Mandalay, home to ≈1.2 million people.
