A wave of frost paralyzes the country
According to the forecasts of the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management, second-degree warnings against severe frost are currently in force in the northern, north-eastern and eastern parts of the country. The minimum temperature on the night from Monday to Tuesday may drop to minus 29 degrees Celsius, and during the day it will not exceed minus 11 degrees. The warnings are to remain in force until Wednesday morning, but everything indicates that they will be extended.
The wind, although moderate, reaching a speed of 5-20 km per hour, additionally intensifies the feeling of cold. The police appeal for special caution and pay attention to people most vulnerable to the effects of extreme temperatures.
The police appeal: “One phone call can save a life”
The Police Headquarters reminds that low temperatures pose a deadly threat, especially to people in crisis of homelessness, seniors, lonely people or drunk people. As emphasized in the announcement published on the X platform, officers patrol streets, empty buildings and staircases every day to provide help to people in need.
“Every day, police officers respond, check and transfer people at risk to safe places,” notes the Police Headquarters. At the same time, he appeals for social vigilance: “Let us not be indifferent. One call to the emergency number 112 can save a life.”
In the face of the upcoming nights, during which the temperature in many places in Poland will drop to extremely low values, the services draw attention to the need for increased care for people most at risk of hypothermia.
