French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said on Wednesday that Tuesday's summit of the coalition of the willing showed that European security is built in Europe, but with the participation of partners from non-European countries. He also assured that Europe is not just an “observer of the world”, but a strategic player.

– The coalition is based on a simple but fundamental principle – deterring any new aggression, while providing Ukraine with credible security guarantees and support for its army and sovereignty, Barrot said.

The minister spoke in Paris at a press conference after the meeting of the heads of diplomacy of the Weimar Triangle countries, which took place with the participation of the Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski. Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar also participated in the talks between ministers from the three countries. This format was adopted for the first time in connection with the finalized trade agreement between the EU and India. Barrot recalled that at the end of January this year. The EU-India summit will be held.

India: A new player in the European puzzle

For his part, the head of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced at the conference further dialogue during his visit to India next week.

The White House does not rule out force. The dispute over Greenland

Minister Barrot, commenting on the situation around Greenland, recalled that France has strengthened its diplomatic and strategic presence in Greenland and repeated that the territory is not for sale.

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said it should be clear that Europe “stands by Ukraine and will not allow Russia to wage a war of attrition that it hopes to win”. With regard to Greenland, he referred to the joint declaration of European countries on this subject and assured that only the inhabitants of Greenland could decide about their fate.

A summit of the coalition of the willing – countries supporting Ukraine – was held in Paris on Tuesday; the group of over 30 countries includes mainly European countries, but also non-European countries, such as Türkiye and Canada. US President Donald Trump's envoys were present at the summit: Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner; The US is not part of the coalition of the willing.

The “Paris Declaration” adopted by the coalition countries talks about the readiness of Ukraine's partners to commit to security guarantees in the event of a truce in the war; lists elements such as multinational forces and participation in the US-led ceasefire monitoring mechanism.

White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said Tuesday that U.S. President Donald Trump and his team are discussing various options to acquire Greenland, including the use of military force. The spokeswoman noted that annexing the island was a priority for the US. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen suggested on Tuesday that the US takeover of Greenland would mean the end of NATO.

The “coalition of the willing” presented another proposal in Paris that brings Europe closer to direct confrontation with Russia, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said on Wednesday.

“By seeking to establish a military presence in Ukraine, Western European countries are posing a risk of direct war with Russia. Hungary will not engage in this. We support peace talks, including negotiations at the highest level between the US and Russia, and firmly reject this next step towards war,” the head of Hungarian diplomacy emphasized.
