US President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that the New York Times is a threat to US national security. He called the New York newspaper “the enemy of the nation.”

“The failing New York Times and their lies and deliberate deception are a serious threat to our country's national security. Their far-left, crazy behavior, never-ending writing of FALSE articles and opinions must be addressed and stopped. THEY ARE THE TRUE ENEMY OF THE NATION! Thank you for your attention,” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Tuesday.

The Hill website noted that Trump was referring in this way to the journal's publication devoted to the relationship between Trump and Jeffrey Epstein, a financier and sex offender.

The newspaper wrote last week that “the president is trying to minimize their friendship, but documents and interviews show they had an intense and complicated relationship.” “The pursuit of women was a game of ego and domination. Women's bodies were currency,” noted the NYT.

On Tuesday, the US Department of Justice announced the publication of thousands more pages of documents related to Epstein. The ministry wrote that the documents contain “false and sensational claims against President Trump that were provided to the FBI just before the 2020 election.” “To be clear: these claims are baseless and false, and if they were even remotely credible, they would certainly have been used against President Trump by now,” it added.

Trump was a longtime friend of Epstein, who was convicted in 2008 of soliciting minors for prostitution, and in 2019 hanged himself in prison before a federal trial on more serious charges. Despite dating for many years, Trump claimed that he kicked Epstein out of his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida because he was “stealing” his masseuses. However, he later said that the reason for breaking off relations with him was because he was a “sick pervert”.
