A deputy criticizes the increase in Parliament's budget expenses: “It is clear that austerity is not for everyone. Suddenly there is money”

USR MP Claudiu Năsui publicly criticized the spending increases approved for the Chamber of Deputies' budget, arguing that despite the official discourse on austerity, state spending continues to increase significantly.

The reaction comes after the budget-finance-banks committee voted on the future budget of the Chamber of Deputies, which foresees substantial increases in several chapters.

Thus, personnel expenses would increase by 8%, increases and allowances by 28%, goods and services expenses by 29%, and travel expenses by 25%.

“It is clear that austerity is not for everyone. Tax increases have reduced incomes and increased prices for the population, but at the state everything is going well”, the deputy wrote in a public post.

“It was a big mistake to raise taxes. Now the state has no reason to reform or cut any significant spending. Because suddenly it's money. Your money.” added Năsui.

The deputy's statements appear in the context in which the Ministry of Finance published an emergency ordinance that establishes the framework for the preparation of the budget for 2026 and the fiscal-budgetary strategies for the following period.

The document sets out measures to stimulate the economy, support vulnerable employees, reduce public spending, strengthen financial discipline and allow lending to local authorities.
