US President Donald Trump is “extremely frustrated” by both Russia's and Ukraine's attitude towards the peace process he is trying to push, White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said Thursday, stressing that now the American leader wants “action” to end the Russian-Ukrainian war.
“The president is extremely frustrated with both camps involved in this war and is tired of meetings just for the sake of meetings,” Karoline Leavitt told the press. “He no longer wants discussions. He wants actions. He wants this war to end,” the White House spokeswoman pointed out, reports AFP and Agerpres.
“His emissary (Steve) Witkoff and his team are continuing discussions with both sides at this very moment,” she added.
Trump said a day ago that European leaders supporting Ukraine want to hold a meeting this weekend or next week on the proposed US peace plan, but that Washington's participation in such a meeting is not guaranteed.
“If there is a real chance to sign a peace agreement, if we feel that these meetings are worth someone from the United States devoting their time this weekend, then we will send a representative,” the White House spokeswoman said. “We are still not sure if real peace can be achieved and if we can really make progress,” she concluded.
Included in the annexes of the Ukraine peace deal, Trump's plan to restore relations with Putin's Russia is causing anxiety in Europe. “It's like Yalta”
Ukraine sent the US a revised peace plan
This reaction from the White House comes shortly after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky publicly announced that he has sent Washington a new counter-proposal to the peace plan proposed last month by the US and revised several times in the meantime to meet the demands of Ukraine and its European supporters, accused by both the US and Russia of obstructing the peace process launched by Trump.
Zelenskiy said on Thursday that the status of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant and control of the eastern Donetsk province were two key issues still unresolved following negotiations with the US on the 28-point peace plan proposed by the US president, and made any territorial concession to Russia conditional on its validation by a referendum in Ukraine, a request that risks further complicating the negotiations.
Zelenski also conditioned the holding of elections in Ukraine on the conclusion of an armistice, a recurring request of Kiev and its European allies, always rejected by Russia.

In addition, in addition to the peace plan proposed by the US, which has been successively revised and to which Ukraine and its European allies have now sent another counterproposal to Washington, the resolution of the conflict must include Western security guarantees for Ukraine and an agreement for its reconstruction, the Ukrainian president wanted to emphasize on Thursday, who insisted that the security guarantees must clearly state what Ukraine's allies will do in the event of a new Russian aggression.
In an interview published by Politico on Tuesday, Trump asked Zelenskiy to “wake up and start accepting things”, alluding to the ceding of territories in eastern Ukraine to Russia, an idea rejected by both Kiev and its European supporters.
