Emil Boc: “PNL and PSD lost enormously because they stayed together too long”. What does it say about the future of Ilie Bolojan

The mayor of Cluj and former prime minister Emil Boc declared on Wednesday that it is healthy for both the PNL and PSD for “these waters to separate”. Boc also said that the PNL Congress will take place in 2027, not earlier, and there is no need for an extraordinary congress, given that only 4 liberals expressed themselves in favor of remaining in government.
“It is healthy for the PNL, but also for the PSD that these waters separate, once, between the PNL and the PSD. We lost enormously because we stayed together too long. We have to admit that, and then, people looked for other alternatives on the left and the right of politics. The PNL must remain the PNL, the PSD must remain the PSD, and the waters have parted, and from this point of view I think we must respect each of the paths we have chosen” declared Emil Boc at Digi24, quoted by News.ro.
The mayor of Cluj said that he still supports the liberal leader Ilie Bolojan and specified that his future will be decided by himself. “For now, he is the president of the party, there will be a congress in 2027, at the PNL, so not earlier”, Boc wanted to mention.
Asked about the organization of an extraordinary congress, Emil Boc answered: “For what reasons? This government, from a constitutional point of view, will stay at the Victoria Palace until the new government is formed”, he said, showing that only 4 out of 54 liberals were against the majority decision. “To convene a Congress you need at least 25%, after that a majority will. We are discussing a non-topic in the PNL, because there is no such thing,” he said.
About the mandate with which the PNL will go to Cotroceni, Emil Boc showed that the PNL will go with the mandate resulting from yesterday's vote, from the BPN, with the resolution presented publicly. “We, from the opposition, as he said, will support everything related to PNRR, to SAFE, to maintaining budget balances, to maintaining Romania's pro-European path. We do this, regardless of whether we are in power or in opposition,” the mayor of Cluj said.
Asked if the PNL will propose a name for prime minister, Boc replied: “Obviously, if I said we are in opposition, I haven't heard of him calling himself prime minister from the opposition.”
Regarding a government of national union, the project launched by AUR, Boc showed that PNL does not participate in such an approach.
“I repeat, I did not participate, we do not participate in such an approach. The governmental option belongs to those who brought down the government and, obviously, under the coordination and baton of the President of Romania, who has the constitutional attribute to find the governing formula, based on what was voted in the Parliament, yesterday”, he said.
PNL decided to enter the opposition
The PNL leadership unanimously voted for Bolojan's version: the party should enter the opposition. The Liberals passed a resolution saying PSD must take over the government.
The liberals entered the meeting on Tuesday, from 5:00 p.m., shortly after the PSD-AUR censure motion was adopted, which dismissed the Bolojan Government.
After a meeting that lasted over 5 hours, Ilie Bolojan and other PNL leaders came out to make statements and announced that the party unanimously decided to enter the opposition.
According to HotNews sources, the vote to enter the opposition was passed unanimously with 50 votes, but four liberals did not vote.
