The sofa no longer stinks of dust: refreshed upholstered furniture without dry cleaning and eliminated 99% of dust mites

The persistent smell of dust from a sofa or chair is not just an inconvenience, but a signal of the accumulation of dust mites, allergens and organic particles that worsen the air quality in the house. This “aroma” is a reason for deep cleaning of upholstered furniture, which can be done without expensive dry cleaning.

1. Vacuum cleaner with HEPA filter and furniture attachment

Start with a thorough dry cleaning. Use a vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter – it not only collects dust, but also traps microscopic mites and their waste products without releasing them back into the air. Move slowly, in different directions, to penetrate deeper into the tissue structure.

2. Lift the pile with a brush or comb

Take a clothes brush or fine-tooth comb and gently comb through the upholstery. This brings stuck particles to the surface. After this, go through the vacuum cleaner again to remove everything that came out.

3. Refresh with Baking Soda

Sprinkle baking soda liberally on upholstered furniture – it works as a natural absorbent:

  • Absorbs unpleasant odors;
  • Removes residual moisture;
  • Neutralizes organic pollution.

Leave the baking soda for 30–40 minutes, then thoroughly brush out and vacuum up.

4. Steaming – the final blow to the mites

Use a steam generator (steamer) to treat the entire surface. Hot steam destroys remaining dust mites, bacteria and viruses without damaging the fabric.
