Senator elected on the SOS lists, suspected of stealing a basket from the reception of a hotel

A senator elected on the SOS Romania lists, Daniel-Paul-Romeo Gheorghe, is the subject of a criminal case for theft, after taking a backpack left at the reception of a hotel in Piatra-Neamț, police sources confirmed to HotNews.ro.
According to IPJ Neamț, the police were alerted on November 14 by calling 112 regarding the disappearance of a backpack from the premises of an accommodation unit.
“The police checked the reported aspects, the backpack being identified and handed over to the person in question. The documents prepared will be forwarded to the competent prosecutor's office,” the institution said.
According to News.ro, the backpack contained a tablet and 1,500 lei and had been forgotten by a man in the reception area.
After viewing the images, it was established that the backpack was taken by a man, identified as Senator Daniel-Paul-Romeo Gheorghe.
He was later found, and the backpack was discovered in the trunk of the car he was traveling with. A criminal case was opened for theft.
The victim, a young man who had collected the money for a party, received back both the amount of 1,500 lei and the iPad tablet, according to Antena 3 CNN.

When asked why he took the bag, Gheorghe Daniel-Paul-Romeo stated that he took it “by mistake”, Antena 3 CNN sources also stated.
He was elected on the lists of the party led by Diana Șoșoacă, SOS Romania. Shortly after his election, in February, Senator Daniel Paul Romeo Gheorghe resigned from the party.
In June, he announced his affiliation with the PSD parliamentary group, without joining the party, however, according to the Senate website.

Daniel Paul Romeo Gheorghe is the senator who collected the most unmotivated absences in the first five months of the year, according to data obtained by HotNews.ro.
In the first five months of the year, he racked up five absences: three in March and two in May.
