Nicușor Dan, about the ruling coalition: there is still a place of reforms, I hope not to mean taxes / to discuss less about the resignations

President Nicușor Dan said that it is normal to have dissatisfaction and differences of opinions in the ruling coalition, saying that we must “talk less about the resignations”. He added that “there is still a place of reforms, I hope it does not mean taxes.”

“Let's talk less about the resignations. What happens is that this government is three months and has taken a series of measures that have been adopted by consensus. It is normal to have dissatisfaction, because when very different people work together there are also differences of opinion. It is important that, at the moment, the Government works,” said Nicușor Nicușor.

The head of state said that the most important discussion next week will be about the budget rectification, when Romania has to give a stability signal.

Nicușor Dan: Deficit political understanding is already outlined

“We have to give a signal to the people who lent us money-and there are many-that we are serious. The rectification will be agreed this week, and the draft of the budget law for 2026 will be elaborated in November. These are clear arguments to show that we are in the correct stability direction,” said Nicușor Dan, who participated in his event.

The president said that Romania started in February-March with a 7% budget deficit on paper, which meant that certain categories of expenses could not be covered.

“Currently, there will be a rectification that ensures the normal functioning of the state, with an increase of the deficit to 8.4% and an additional 25 billion lei for expenses. In large lines, the political understanding is already outlined,” said the President of Romania.

“The most important are two components: the impact on the people-and this exists-but also the financial stability. Here we must always look at the past. Recently, the three big rating agencies have kept the investment recommendation. The measures already taken ensures the stability for 2026. There is a place of reforms, I hope not to mean taxes, but for the point we have this point, we only have this part. Stabilized for the present moment, “said Nicușor Dan.

Asked about the Government's plan on the 13,000 redundancies in the public system, Nicușor Dan confirmed that there is a consensus on the need to reduce the administrative apparatus.

“All Romanians see and feel that we have an appliance, both central and locally, in which there are busy positions. As this will happen and as long as – it is a discussion between parties. There are different opinions, but I appreciate that these discussions at the level of leaders are absolutely civilized.
