Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Sunday he was “saddened” by the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed following Israeli-American attacks against Iran, writes AFP.

“I was saddened to learn of the death of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, following the attacks that took place” on Saturday, Erdogan said in a message posted on X on Sunday, extending Turkey's “condolences” to the Iranian people.

After the United States and Israel launched a coordinated attack on Iran on Saturday morning, the war quickly spread across the region, with Tehran launching retaliatory attacks on Israel and US military forces at bases in the Middle East. In fact, Iran has launched strikes on all Arab countries in the Persian Gulf region, rich in oil and allies of the United States.

The US-Israel attack eliminated dozens of Iranian leaders, led by the country's supreme leader – Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, whose death was announced by Trump and Netanyahu and later confirmed by Iran.
