“St. Pantelimon” Clinical Emergency Hospital in Bucharest received, following a sponsorship, an ambulance valued at over 80,000 euros, but the ambulance cannot be used because the salary of the ambulance driver who should drive it is very low, just over 3,000 lei, writes News.ro.
“Through a sponsorship, we received an ambulance, 82,000 euros, the latest model, brand new, from a Greek company that has been in Romania for 30 years and gave us this ambulance as a gift. We tried to find a driver, an ambulance, what can you see, on the low salary offered by the institution, not only ours, the hospitals, a citizen came, he signed up for the job competition alone and when he found out the salary he said: thank you, I don't need it. It's 3,560 lei, in hand, to be an ambulance driver. It's true that it's new, it's air-conditioned, it's ultra-modern, unfortunately there's no one to use it,” said Dr. Toni Popescu, the interim medical director of the “Sf. Pantelimon” Emergency Hospital, on Monday evening.
He specified that it is a transport ambulance, which, however, has the equipment of an intervention ambulance, because that is what the sponsoring company wanted.
