Two people were killed and three injured in Abu Dhabi in a rocket attack. UAE officials say the missile was successfully intercepted

Thursday's incident brings the death toll in the UAE to 11 since the start of the Iran war, since Tehran responded to US and Israeli attacks by hitting Gulf countries with missiles and drones, Reuters and Gulf News write.

Two people died in Abu Dhabi after debris from an intercepted missile fell on a street, the emirate's press office said on Thursday, adding that three others were injured and several vehicles were damaged.

It is the latest incident in the UAE, which has been repeatedly attacked by Iranian drones and missiles, along with other Gulf states, since the start of the US-Israeli war.

“Abu Dhabi authorities reacted to an incident involving debris falling on Sweihan Street following the successful interception of a ballistic missile by air defense systems,” the emirate's press office said.

“The incident resulted in the death of two unidentified persons, three injuries and damage to several cars. Further information will be provided in due course,” the officials added.

On Thursday morning, the Ministry of Defense (MOD) confirmed that its air defense systems had successfully intercepted missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles launched from Iran.

The latest incident in Abu Dhabi raises the death toll, bringing the UAE's total death toll to 11.

According to Gulf News, three members of the UAE armed forces died, while six foreign nationals – including Pakistani, Nepalese, Bangladeshi and Palestinian nationals – were killed in separate incidents related to missile and drone debris.

In addition, 166 people were injured, with injuries ranging from minor to serious.

The Defense Ministry also said the country's air defense systems had intercepted hundreds of ballistic missiles, dozens of cruise missiles and nearly 2,000 drones since the Iranian attacks began on February 28.
