Nicuşor Dan, after the incident with the Russian drones: “Poland and NATO countries have shown that they are prepared and have a real -time reaction”

President Nicuşor Dan said on Wednesday night that there are no concern in Romania after 19 Russian drones entered the Poland's airspace. “Within NATO there are procedures and Romania is ready to apply these procedures, with the appropriate equipment. There is no concern from the Romanians,” said the head of state, according to which “it is clear, in a similar hypothesis, who intervenes, who gives the order.”

“There are several things to say. First of all, it happened to fall drone, including us, 3-4 times, most on the Danube border. This time it was some drones that entered the Polish territory tens of kilometers. The second thing, Poland and its allies-and this is very important. Article 4 of the NATO treaty speaks of consultation and it was clear that this will happen.

“From the perspective of Romania, obviously we have to be solidarity with Poland and we expressed this directly. I participated in this consultation, which will continue. In short, this is. Poland and its allies, NATO countries, have shown that they are prepared and have a reaction that is real time,” said the president.

Asked if the level of security alert in our country has increased, following the incident with the Russian drones in Poland, the head of state replied: “Romania is NATO, in NATO there are some procedures – of course I will not describe the military operations. Within NATO there are procedures and Romania is prepared to apply these procedures, so there is no concern.

Questioned if in a similar situation we would act as Poland did today, Nicușor Dan said: “Yes, we together with our allies, who are already here. Because it is important to have bilateral partnerships and to be part of the organizations.”

About the law by which enemy drones can be shot down on the territory of Romania, the president stated: “The procedures are well defined, it was first the law in Parliament and after that it was the CSAT that clarified. It is clear, in the hypothesis of a matter similar to that of Poland, it is clear who intervenes, who gives the order, all things are absolutely clear.”

What Nicușor Dan said about the Poland Incident:

• “We are solidarity – I still emphasize this – why is solidarity important? Because of course, we will be more exposed to this danger than the Spaniards, Belgians, Canadians and many others.
• In front of this issue, in front of 80 years of peace and prosperity we have an aggressor state, Russia, which somehow unbalanced the balance of powers after the Second World War and the International Community has reacted in solidarity to it-all things are in the right direction.
• That is, NATO has reacted very firmly today, because Poland is a NATO member state, as Romania is. Compared to this war in Ukraine, Europe has understood that it must complete its military endowment and balance the security report with the United States. So we are aligned.
• Obviously it is not nice to pay money from the national defense budget instead of taking them into health or education or culture, but it is a cost for security. And anything is better than war. So, we are aligned and we are in this gradual program to complete each of the Member States and both interoperability and the possibility to help each other in case of possible aggression.“

In May, the interim president at that time Ilie Bolojan promulgated the law that allows the bloom of drones in the Romanian airspace and the one regarding the peace time of military missions and operations on the territory of the Romanian state. The laws were adopted in February by Parliament, but gold, can also be attacked at the CCR, the court judges rejecting the opposition notifications.

The legislation stipulates that against pilot aircraft that use the following measures can be used unauthorized against pilot aircraft: the following measures can be taken:

• Establishing the position of the aircraft, the radio connection and its identity,
• The transmission of the information and provisions to the pilot of the aircraft, in order to use the national air space,,
• The interception of the aircraft that continued to use the national air space of Romania unauthorized,
• Execution of warning fire by intercepting aircraft,
• Execution of destruction fire by intercepting aircraft,
• the execution of the destruction fire by the means of air defense with the surface base.

The unanswered aircraft on board which illegally passes the state border of Romania and flies into the national air space without authorization can be destroyed, neutralized or its flight can be controlled.
