For young adult Poles, the most preferred form of refund of the deposit for drink packaging is a transfer to a bank account – according to a survey carried out at the request of the Poland Niegodnów Foundation. The respondents also pointed to the vouchers and discount coupons for stores.

On October 1, the deposit system will start in Poland. Large shops, with an area of ​​over 200 sq m, will have to receive empty packaging and pay a deposit to customers. However, smaller stores will take a deposit, but joining the packaging collection system in their case will be voluntary.

The system will cover three types of packaging: plastic bottles up to 3 liters, metal cans up to 1 liter, and also – from January 1, 2026 – glass bottles of reusable to 1.5 liters. The deposit for plastic bottles and metal cans will be 50 groszy per item; For glass bottles, it will be PLN 1.

A study carried out at the request of the Poland Niegoczdówkowa Foundation shows that Most respondents aged 18–24 (60 percent) would like to receive a refund of the deposit directly to their account. This preference was also indicated by almost half of people from the age group 25-34 (48 percent), which makes this method of settlement the most desirable among young adults.

Zbigniew Wiśniewski, vice president of the Foundation, cited in the information, assessed that in order for the deposit system to be successful, it must be not only effective, but also user -friendly. “Therefore, enabling customers to quickly receive funds directly to the account using non -cash payment instruments can play an important role in building the involvement and trust of consumers. Trends support this, because in 2024 as much as 69 percent of all payments were made in a non -cash way” – he added.

The second respondents most often chosen by the respondents were a voucher or coupon obtained in the bottle for use for subsequent purchases. This option is preferred by 26 percent. respondents aged 25-34 and 20 percent respondents aged 18–24. It is less attractive to these age groups pickup of a voucher or coupon directly at the checkout – 12 percent chose this option. respondents aged 25-34 and 6 percent people from 18–24 years.

The study was carried out at a sample of 1040 adult Poles on July 11-14, 2025, by CAWI.
