Sorin Grindeanu, virulent speech: “I present to you the bill for the Bologan Plan to destroy the economy and the population”

The leader of the PSD, Sorin Grindeanu, told his party colleagues on Monday, in the speech held during the party's internal referendum on the withdrawal of political confidence in Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, that “we have to decide today whether we will remain in a form of government in which the PSD must be – as the case may be – either a punching bag or just a reservoir of votes to ensure the majority for the “Bolojan Plan” of destruction to go ahead unhindered before”.
“I and most of you believe that running for government in the current formula is a deadly political trap for the Social Democratic Party. Better an opposition with a voice than a government with a bowed head!”, said Sorin Grindeanu, during the PSD internal referendum, in the event entitled “Moment of Truth” and held at the Parliament Palace.
The PSD leader emphasized that the PSD entered in good faith into this political construction originally thought as a shield against populism.
Grindeanu claimed that, last June, PSD entered this Coalition with three major objectives: protecting the standard of living, continuing investments and supporting the national economy.
“Today – we find that all the objectives have been missed”, emphasized the president of the PSD.
The full speech of Sorin Grindeanu
- “I entered in good faith into this political construction originally intended as a shield against populism. We are the only left-wing party in a coalition with right-wing parties. We wanted to be part of the solution and fix certain past mistakes for which we had our share of responsibility.
- However, the fight against extremism was abandoned from the next day, and for 10 months we have been seeing a continuous war against the PSD and the people of the left. A war waged from within the governing coalition whose only effect was precisely the growth of the extremist camp.
- Right-wing propaganda tried to make PSD the perfect alibi for all the economic and social crimes of this period.
- It's been 10 months in which every PSD member has become a live target. From ordinary members, to councilors, mayors and to every County Council president or ministers – you have all been attacked and put against the wall. Whatever you delivered to the Romanians – whether we're talking about roads, schools, water or sewerage – was drowned by the waves of hatred poured out by right-wing propaganda.
- Or – after 10 months, these things can no longer continue. Not with us!
- In June last year, we entered this Coalition with three major objectives: protecting living standards, continuing investments and supporting the national economy.
- Today – we find that all targets have been missed.
- That is why we apologize to Romanians and Romanian entrepreneurs who trusted us and only asked us not to leave them alone.
- The truth is that, in the last ten months, PSD has diluted its left-wing identity by sitting at the table with someone who just cuts from everywhere and puts nothing in place.
- No matter what we say and no matter how we argue, the Romanians tell us on the street that WE keep at the head of the Government the one who cuts, closes and kicks out. And newer – sell!
- Endlessly circling cold austerity is a form of betrayal of our own values.
- We have to decide today if we will remain in a form of government in which the PSD must be – as the case may be – either a punching bag or just a reservoir of votes to ensure the majority so that the “Bolojan Plan” of destruction can go forward unhindered.
- I and most of you believe that hanging on to government in its current form is a political death trap for the Social Democratic Party.
- Better a vocal opposition than a government with its head bowed!
- The PSD can no longer be held captive while our social base is systematically destroyed.
- You are the first party for nothing – with 45% weight in the Coalition, if you are blocked from taking the measures you were voted for.
- It is inadmissible for someone with 10 or 12% to give orders to someone with 28%.
- It is inadmissible for people whom no one voted for to make crucial decisions in the Government.
- It is inadmissible to continue endlessly with someone who does not understand that dialogue with partners, but also with unions or employers is not a favor, but an obligation.
- However, the Romanians are tired of excuses.
- Romanians want to see that the PSD has woken up and is once again acting as a protective shield against those who only want to cut and destroy.
- Today we have to look the truth in the face, without management and without political filters.
- For months, we have been witnessing a failed experiment, an experiment on the back of the Romanian economy and on the pocket of every citizen.
- Today, I want to present to you the bill for the “Bologan Plan” of economic and population destruction.
- The numbers don't lie, no matter how much some accounting scammers try to make them do.
- The current prime minister took over a growing economy and in just 6 months took it into technical recession.
- We went from +1% growth in the second quarter of 2025 to -1.9% in the fourth quarter, the biggest post-pandemic decline!
- Domestic consumption collapsed. We have 7 consecutive months of decline – due to VAT increases, excise duties and revenue freezes.
- Industrial production? Record decrease of 7% only in January 2026.
- Tourism and HoReCa? On hubs, with minus 16% in January.
- And what do the sycophants of the “Bologan Plan” of destruction tell us?
- That this is actually a “new investment-based economic model”. A lie!
- The data show clearly: public investments were 12 billion lei lower last year.
- And in 2026, in the first two months, we are already in the red with 3 billion lei in investments financed from the budget.
- While 100,000 Romanian SMEs are thrown to the brink of bankruptcy, the “Bolojan plan” of destruction acted as a shield for multinationals.
- He offered them tax breaks that cost us 3 billion lei annually – exactly what it would have cost if we didn't put the burden on the more than 200,000 teachers in Romania.
- That means austerity for labor and exemptions for big capital!
- Here we are not only talking about percentages, we are talking about destinies, about families. 54 thousand Romanians lost their jobs during the Bolojan mandate. People sent home from industry, from Dacia Mioveni, from Sidex Galați, from Azomureș, from Complexul Energetic Oltenia or from auto component factories in the west of the country. Every week a company announces it is closing its doors and the Government looks the other way.
- Inflation doubled to 10%.
- We have the largest decrease in the purchasing power of wages in the last 15 years: -14% in education, -14% in administration and minus 10% in Health.
- Pensions? We have the worst decline in purchasing power in the last 25 years, and this is unacceptable.
- And what is the response to all this real data coming out of the economy? That the prime minister turned on the light in the pantry and found rats! I think he saw, in fact, those who can't wait to get their hands on CEC, Hidrolectrica, Salrom, Romgaz and all the strategic Romanian companies that make a profit. And this is called robbery!
- Nevertheless, we see a man who speaks about himself in the third person and who tells us all: “Without me it is not possible, I am the reformer!”. To be a reformer without reform, I think, is a first in world politics.
- It is no reform to make collective layoffs!
- It is no reform to delay the adoption of the budget for months like in the 90s!
- It is no reform to cut mothers' money and teachers' salaries!
- It is no reform to cut even from the disabled!
- When 80% of the citizens tell you that the direction is wrong, you can NOT claim that you have reformed! But only chaos!
- Let's talk honestly about what would have happened without PSD in government?!
- VAT would have been 24% today!
- CASS would have applied to all pensions, including the minimum ones.
- Utility bills and food prices would have exploded. We have imposed a ceiling on the commercial addition to food and the price of gas.
- The minimum wage would have remained frozen. And doctors' salaries would have been cut by 10%.
- And there would have been no Solidarity Package for pensioners and vulnerable Romanians. And Romanians would have ended up paying tax even for solariums.
- And, the icing on the cake: local investment programs would have been stopped!
- There are concrete things that I have achieved, but only after endless threats and arguments. And this political collaboration can no longer continue in this way!
- The myth of the “savior hero” doesn't stop hunger and doesn't pay Romanians' bills. It's only good for those who need a screen to loot Romania's last real resources. But I can no longer ask the PSD to be part of this government simulation.
- This disastrous government management must stop.
- And today – PSD shows that it hears and listens to the Romanians. All those who work hard and are now told they have to make more sacrifices.
- Today, together, we have the opportunity to voice all these grievances.
- Today, we must make a change before it's too late!
- Too late for the billions in the PNRR.
- Too late for any hope of an economic recovery this year.
- Too late to be able to restore the collapse of the standard of living of every Romanian.
- Let's say it firmly and clearly: Enough. Until here! In this way it is no longer possible!
- We need a new economic and social model put into practice by a man who also likes dialogue, not just power.
- Romania needs balance, social justice and a state that is a partner, not an executioner, for the business environment and for its own citizens. I ask you – therefore, to vote according to your own conscience and with Romania's future in mind.“
