The Minister of Transport, Ciprian Șerban, said on Wednesday that the “Romanian Railway Safety Authority (ASFR) identified a series of deficiencies” at Metrorex.

In a Facebook post, on Wednesday, Ciprian Șerban said that “many of the notifications” he received about Metrorex “were confirmed”.

According to the minister, ASFR detected at Metrorex “49 technical failures only in July, trains in circulation with fewer companions than the contract, unauthorized personnel involved in activities related to traffic, serious deviations in the process of training the employees”.

“Sanctions were applied and clear measures were imposed, with firm terms. In addition, ASFR proposed the elaboration of a project of the Minister of Transport, to improve the control over how the Metrorex staff is prepared for the safety of the passenger,” added Ciprian Șerban.

The Minister of Transport claims that those who “do not respect the rules” will “answer”.

“We will closely follow how the measures are ordered. The safety of the people are not treated with superficiality. Who does not respect the rules, will answer. And for those in the Metrorex offices, I tell them only: before the bonuses for the underground work, to think about the conditions in which the traveling public circulates”,
