The European Union (EU) will continue to target Russia's war economy, the head of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, said on Tuesday, who said the next sanctions package against Moscow is likely to be ready until next month, reports Reuters.
She made this statement after the online summit of the European Council on the Ukraine war, one day after the extraordinary meeting in Washington between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian leader Volodimir Zelenski, along with several European leaders who came to support him.
Russia risks new sanctions if Putin does not demonstrate that he is “willing to take serious measures to put an end to the illegal invasion”/ the conclusions of the leaders' meeting in the “Coalition for will”
Kallas said that “the unity between EU leaders during today's virtual summit was tangible” and that it has put Ukraine's security topics and sanctions against Russia at the head of the agenda for next week's negotiations between the defense and foreign ministers of the EU.
“In (Russian President Vladimir) Putin cannot be confident that he will respect any promise or commitment. For this reason, security guarantees must be strong enough and credible to discourage Russia to regroup and attack again,” said Kaja Kallas, in a post on the Social network X, according to Agerpres.

On Tuesday, the White House said that the United States can help coordinate security guarantees for Ukraine and that President Trump has ordered his national security team to collaborate with Europe.
“President (Trump) has clearly stated that no American troops will be held in Ukraine, but we can, of course, help coordinate and can provide other means of security guarantees to our European allies,” said the spokesman of the White House, Karoline Leavitt.
