The artificial intelligence startup of Elon Musk, Xai, will pay the Telegram Messegress platform the sum of $ 300 million to integrate its AI Chatbot, Grok, according to an announcement made by the Telegram CEO, Pavel Durov, transmits the CNBC business station, quoted by News.ro.

Durov said he concluded a one year partnership with Musk, a partnership that “strengthens the financial position of Telegram”. In addition to the initial amount, Telegram will also receive 50% of the revenues obtained from the Xai subscriptions sold on the platform.

“This summer, Telegram users will have access to the best technology on the market,” Durov said in the post.

Xai and Telegram did not provide additional comments for CNBC. Telegram has exceeded the threshold of 1 billion active users monthly in 2025 and, according to the Wall Street Journal, will attract at least $ 1.5 billion through a bond issue on Wednesday.

The platform is popular in countries such as Russia and Ukraine, being used by government officials and military institutions.

Pavel Durov, born in Russia, but who is also a French citizen, is currently investigated in France for the alleged toleration of illegal activities on Telegram, including drug trafficking, fraud and child pornography. After his arrest in August, Durov is not allowed to leave France without official approval. Telegram previously stated, in a post on Musk's X platform, that he respects the EU legislation and that Durov “has nothing to hide.”

According to his site, Durov left Russia in 2014 and is also a citizen of the United Arab Emirates.

In March, Elon Musk announced that Xai merged with the Social Network X, evaluating the company at $ 80 billion and the social platform at 33 billion. However, Grok chatbot was recently criticized after providing inadequate answers about controversial topics, including statements about the “white genocide” in South Africa.

Xai said that these answers were generated due to an “unauthorized change” that violated the internal policies and values of the company. “We conducted a thorough investigation and we implement measures to improve the transparency and reliability,” the company said.

Experts point out that this incident emphasizes the vulnerability of Chatbotii AI in the face of external manipulations.
