On this day, the Orthodox Church honors the memory of St. Isidore, renamed the Russian people in Sidor. The saint was nicknamed the saint because from his holiday the northern winds – “Sivers” stopped blowing. People said: “All the Sivers will move on Sidor's day.” Also, cuts and swallows-tapes that carry heat to Rus' fly to Sidor because of the warm seas.
Early returning swallows promised a happy year. At the same time, they said: “One swallow does not do spring”; “Do not believe the first killer whale.” This meant that only the mass arrival of birds could be evidence of the final arrival of heat.
On this day, attention was paid to signs. If the day was clear on Sidor, then they were waiting for a good harvest of cucumbers. If the weather was cold, then all summer it should have been like that.
