The Central Electoral Bureau admitted, on Wednesday, the appeal formulated by the Union Save Romania – Brașov County Branch regarding the distribution by the candidate George Simion and gold of electoral advertising materials containing personal data, without their consent and ordered the cessation of the distribution of these materials.
According to the BEC decision, the Union Save Romania challenged Decision 19/28.04.2025 of the Brasov County Electoral Bureau, which rejected the notification of the formation against the candidate George Nicolae Simion and of the Gold Party for the distribution of electoral advertising materials containing personal data of the citizens, without having their consent, requesting the elimination of these materials.
BEC mentions that the County Electoral Bureau no. 8 Brașov rejected the notification of the USR in this regard, but ordered the submission of the notification to the National Supervisory Authority for the Processing of Personal Data (ANSPDCP), in order to analyze and take the legal measures.
Following the analysis of the appeal, the BEC admits the appeal made by the Union Save Romania – Brașov County Branch against Decision no. 19/28.04.2025 issued by the County Electoral Bureau no. 8 Brașov and orders the cessation immediately to distribute the electoral propaganda materials that are the subject of this decision.
USR said, in a statement, that the Central Electoral Bureau found that George Simion and Gold violated the legislation when they used from the electoral register the data of the voters other than the one provided by law-verifying the correctness of the lists.
The BEC decision denies the previous decision of the Brasov County Electoral Bureau, which did not see a problem in the way George Simion is playing with the personal data of the voters, USR said.
“It was an important step: it has been recognized that these practices are illegal and ordered the transfer of propaganda materials immediately. They are not optional, and the law must apply to everyone – including George Simion and those who have a shadow, ”said Alexandru Gheorghe, Vice -president of USR Brașov and leader of USR Brașov local councilors.
