The reaction of an American who discovers the taste of Romanian mouse: “Romanians know what they do”

Moved from sunny Florida to a picturesque village in Romania, about two hours from Bucharest, Mike lives a story that seems to be taken out of a movie. Although his parents are Romanian, it was only on his first visit to the country that he really felt the connection with the place from which he has his roots. It was love at first sight, and the decision to move here came naturally, from the desire to better understand his origins.

Recently, Mike surprised his followers with a tasty reaction to one of the most traditional Romanian dishes: mouse. Curious and with a smile on his face, the American decided to try the pork skin served cold for the first time, as is customary here during the winter holidays.

“I don't know what to think about it. That's mice and I'm about to try it. To my American friends, that's pork skin. You just eat it, it's not cooked or … it's kind of cooked, but it's not warm, it's eaten cold. very chewy, some hot sauce would be good. It has a very strong flavor. Not bad, not my favorite kind, but not bad either. I think that with a few beers, about seven or 10, would it's going well, the Romanians know what they're doing, for sure”says Mike, in a video posted on TikTok.

His candid and humorous reaction quickly took TikTok by storm. Although the mouse did not instantly become his favorite dish, Mike appreciated the authentic Romanian experience and, above all, the tradition behind it.

Now settled in the countryside, the American says he loves every moment spent in Romania: the warm people, the tasty food, the customs and culture that made him feel at home. In a comment left on one of his videos, he confessed with emotion that he didn't think he could ever leave here again.

His story is another proof that Romania can be “home” even for those who discover it later. And if even an American from Florida gets to eat mice with a smile on his face, it means that our traditions really have something special.
