President Nicușor Dan said on Friday in a press conference in Salzburg with his Austrian counterpart, that Romania will continue to support Ukraine, “including in the military area”.
Asked by a Romanian journalist about the possibility of donating another patriotic system for Ukraine, after the one who gave in to the mandate of former President Klaus Iohannis, Nicușor Dan replied: “related to Romania's support for Ukraine, he will continue, including in the military area, but a patriot system has not been put into question.”
Ukraine has secured funds for three Patriot systems
On Thursday, Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski has announced that he has received confirmations from partners that they will provide financing for three Patriot missile defense systems and that discussions are in progress to be financed seven more.
“We have officially received confirmation in Germany for two systems and Norway for one. Currently, we work with Dutch partners,” he told reporters, quoted by Reuters.
President Donald Trump announced earlier this month that American weapons worth billions of dollars will go to Ukraine, including Patriot missiles. This has triggered negotiations for finding partners to contribute to the weapon purchase scheme – a process that will determine Ukraine.
Patriot systems have proven to be effective in destroying Russian ballistic missiles targeting Ukrainian cities.
