The French leader met with students of the French-Cypriot school in Nicosia on the occasion of the informal summit of the European Council. During the conversation, he announced that after he steps down from the office of president, which will take place in 2027, he will not engage in political life.

Emmanuel Macron's presidency is coming to an end
President Macron also pointed out what is the most difficult part of the term that is coming to an end. — The hardest thing after nine years is to protect what you did right and try to move forward, but sometimes you have to fix what you did wrong, he noted.
When asked by a student if he always wanted to become president, Emmanuel Macron replied: — I have always loved my homeland and I have always been interested in life in my country, but that does not make a person president – he said.
— I wanted my ideas to be implemented. (…) I said to myself: “you can change things more decisively and faster”, that's why I founded a political movement and then became president – he added, quoted by the French “Le Figaro”.
Emmanuel Macron will leave the Élysée Palace in 2027 after two terms in office. Under French law, he will not be able to run for re-election during the next elections – but this option is open to the politician in the case of the 2032 elections.
