CTP criticizes the promise of Nicușor Dan not to increase VAT: “Do not swallow his president's hat, after signed an electoral check”

The newspaper Cristian Tudor Popescu criticized the positioning of President Nicușor Dan against the subject of VAT increase, accusing him of making population promises, without real coverage and to win votes.

“Mr. Nicușor Dan declared in the election campaign, and he even wrote, that during his term of president VAT will not grow. It was not a mistake, it was a calculated politician-popular movement. The purpose: to win votes,” He wrote CTP, in a Facebook post.

He claims that Nicușor Dan knew since then that such a promise cannot be guaranteed, since the decision on fiscal policies belongs to the Government, and the president has no direct duties in this regard.

“He could say that his wish is not to increase the VAT, but that, by becoming president, he will have complicated negotiations with 4 games and that, ultimately, the decision will belong to the designated prime minister, who will have to put into practice the fiscal measures. But that did not bring votes …”, stresses the newspaper.

In the context of the current political crisis, the CTP states that the head of state has placed alone in a trap: either he renounces the VAT growth and loses his credibility, or insists on the promise and sacrifices the appointment of Ilie Bolojan as prime minister, for the sake of the image.

“The absurdity of the situation is sad: it does not matter who is prime minister, it does not matter, in fact, that VAT is 19% or 21%, the fiscal package, the measures to decrease the deficit, whatever they are-now, in the 12th hour, the problem is, as the English say, not to swallow their hat. says Cristian Tudor Popescu.

At the end of the post, the journalist calls for reason: “I, one, would be glad if Mr. President would present excuses because he could not keep his promise in the campaign and would finally call him Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan. This would strengthen my conviction that, before all, Mr. Nicușor Dan is a rational man.”
