Karolina Muchova Advances to Wimbledon Finals After Thrilling Win Over Coco Gauff

Karolina Muchova, aged 29 and ranked 9th in the WTA, triumphed over 22-year-old Coco Gauff, ranked 7th, with a score of 6-2, 1-6, 7-6 (10) to advance to her second Grand Slam final. The decisive match took place on Thursday, July 9, 2026, showcasing an intense battle lasting over two and a half hours.

The semifinal unfolded with a back-and-forth dynamic; Muchova dominated the first set while Gauff bounced back in the second, leading to a tense third set.

The final set featured critical moments. At 1-0 for Muchova, Gauff held a 40-0 lead on her serve, but Muchova managed to equalize before Gauff ultimately won the game, much to the delight of her mother, who was cheering from the stands.

With Muchova leading 2-1, she had two break points, but Gauff fought back, claiming four consecutive points. As the match continued, both players reached a nail-biting 6-6, leading to a tie-break to ten points. Despite displaying signs of discomfort, Muchova played fiercely, taking an early lead of 4-1 and later 6-3. However, Gauff fought back to earn a match point at 9-8, only to falter on a pivotal short shot that hit the net.

In a dramatic finish, Muchova capitalized, winning two points in a row to earn her own match point. Gauff saved the first, but was unable to respond to the second, allowing Muchova to seal the victory and secure her place in the Wimbledon final.

“It sounds amazing to be in a final. Honestly, it was such a tough battle, a roller-coaster. There wasn’t much time to think. It was intense. I’m trembling and trying to process what just happened. The crowd was incredible, and I thank them for their support,” an elated Muchova shared after the match.

When asked about her condition after the match’s climactic moments, Muchova reassured, “Yes, I’m fine. I just tried to breathe and I’m okay.”

In the upcoming Wimbledon final, Muchova will face either her compatriot Linda Noskova, 21, ranked 12th, or Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk, 24, ranked 13th.
