Details of the death of three Krasnoyarsk tourists in the mountains of Buryatia have become known

21 April 16:19

Details of the tragic death of three tourists from Krasnoyarsk in the Eastern Sayan mountains have become known. They froze to death near Munku-Sardyk peak, the highest point of the Sayan Mountains at 3,491 meters.

Let us remind you that a group of 15 people arrived in the village of Mondy to climb the Munku-Sardyk peak, left the base camp on April 18, and planned to return on April 22. On April 21, several tourists went to the highway at the foot of the mountains and left a note in the cafe about the death of three people during the descent. After that, they climbed back to the scene.

The details of what happened were told by the owner of a cafe in the Okinsky district, where tourists allegedly left a note asking for help.

“They said that people had become separated from their group and suggested that they were injured and required evacuation. I took an all-terrain vehicle, since there was no way to get there by other means of transport. We were on our way to help, but we heard on the radio that people were dead. The other part of the group went to meet the stragglers and got there faster than us. Then one of the tourists, who was with me at that moment, wrote a note with information about their group, location and asked to return to the cafe to call the Ministry of Emergency Situations, since there is no communication in the mountains,” KP – Irkutsk quotes a local resident.

The KP – Krasnoyarsk correspondent also contacted tourists who conquered this peak a few days before the tragedy. Andrey Belokurov said that the route is very popular and is considered not the most difficult for trained people. Most people go to Munku-Sardyk in the spring – from March to the May holidays. But a lot depends on the weather. According to him, on April 19 the forecast was favorable, but in the mountains everything changed dramatically: strong winds and cold were a surprise for this time of year. Many turned around due to poor health or inappropriate equipment. Closer to the top, the wind blew non-stop.

Investigators from the Investigative Committee continue to establish all the circumstances of the incident, and also check the conditions for organizing the route and compliance with safety measures during the ascent.
