Sorin Grindeanu explained that his exit from the room was not a disrespect to UDMR representatives, but reflected the official position of Romania. The PSD leader also mentioned that he expressed gratitude to the prime minister of Hungary, Viktor Orban, for the support offered in the process of Romania's accession to Schengen, after 13 years of waiting.
“Yesterday I talked to the UDMR Congress, where I went with pleasure, about the unit. Yesterday, in my speech, I spoke and thanked Prime Minister Viktor Orban for the role he had last year and we must all recognize, in Romania's entry into Schengen. Let us not forget that last year, under the presidency, under Hungary, Schengen, where we were kept at the door about 13 years. he said.
Grindeanu showed the regret that the press was focused only on the moment he left the room, without mentioning his messages related to unity and collaboration.
“I have many colleagues in the UDMR that I respect and with which I have good relationships, including President Kelemen Hunor, Cseke Attila and Tanczos Barna. Respect and friendship for them remain unchanged.” said Grindeanu.
He stressed that the national unit implies the respect of the official symbols of Romania, including the national anthem, and that its gesture was strictly in accordance with this perspective.
The PSD leader reaffirmed that the dialogue and collaboration with the Hungarian community in Romania remain important and that his intention was to combine respect for the law with good political cooperation.
“I respect the friendship with some of them. But yesterday I talked about the unit. Unity means that from the perspective of Romania there is only one official anthem, that of Romania”, he said.
