The media wrote that Ukraine had diesel fuel left until the end of March. Is this true?

The article noted that after Russian missile attacks virtually destroyed Ukraine's domestic oil refining capacity, the country became almost completely dependent on imported fuel supplies from Western, Central and Southern Europe.

According to Enkorr, as of April there was no clarity on the situation, as suppliers delayed a decision until the last moment.

The agency later updated the publication, citing a statement from the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine. It said the government is holding regular coordination meetings with market participants and relevant authorities to prevent any disruption in fuel supply. The situation remains under control, the ministry assured. They also reported that supplies for April have already been secured by approximately 70%.

Director of the A-95 Consulting Group Sergei Kuyun said on Facebook that there is no shortage of diesel fuel and is not expected.

“I declare that these publications are the result of a misunderstanding of the content of professional reviews of the market situation. In March, supply volumes are at the level of 2025, there are even expectations of the formation of a certain reserve for April.
Contracting for April continues, on average 40% has already been reserved,” he wrote.

According to Kuyun, the incorrect interpretation of analytical data is due to the fact that suppliers confirm the remaining volumes, but the question of price remains. That is, this fuel will be purchased, but the price is not yet known.

“There is no shortage and is not expected. Moreover, for some reason there are no queues for diesel at 85 UAH,” he emphasized.

Context

Against the backdrop of the war in Iran and the blocking of the Strait of Hormuz in Ukraine, fuel prices began to rise. It was caused primarily by panic associated with the war and fears about the possible closure of the straits, and not by a real shortage, he said Kuyun.

In connection with the increase in prices, the Committee on Energy and Housing and Communal Services reported that there is currently no shortage of fuel in Ukraine.
