Russia struck on the night of Thursday into Friday “strategic targets” from Ukraine with the help of the Oresnik hypersonic missile, the Russian Ministry of Defense said in a statement, according to AFP.
The attacks, whose number and exact objectives were not specified, took place “in response to the terrorist attack committed by the Kiev regime” against one of Vladimir Putin's residences on December 29, which Ukraine says are pure fiction.
“Today, in response to the Kiev regime's terrorist attack on the residence of the President of the Russian Federation in the Novgorod region, the Russian Armed Forces launched a massive attack with long-range land and sea-based precision-guided weapons, including the Oresnik medium-range mobile land-based missile system,” it is shown in the press release.
“The objectives of the attack were achieved. The production facilities for the unmanned aerial vehicles used in the terrorist attack, as well as the energy infrastructure supporting Ukraine's military-industrial complex, were hit,” reports the Russian Ministry of Defense.
Authorities in the western city of Lviv reported several explosions and a ballistic missile attack on critical infrastructure.
rocket “it was moving at a speed of about 13,000 kilometers per hour, following a ballistic trajectory”it is stated in a statement of the “West” Air Command of the Ukrainian Air Force, stating that the type of missile will be determined after examining its components.
The Air Force of Ukraine said that at around 23:30 on January 8, a nationwide air raid alert was declared regarding missiles launched from the Kapustin Iar region, which is home to the RS-26 Rubej missile systems on which the Oresnik is based.
These systems are designed to carry out attacks at distances of up to 6,000 kilometers.
