In Krasnoyarsk, a 13-year-old teenager was placed in a juvenile detention center for 30 days for stealing a car.

According to the prosecutor's office, the teenager committed the crime in November of this year. Secretly taking alcohol from his grandmother, he drank it in the yard in the evening, where he noticed a parked car, got behind the wheel, managed to start the engine and drove out onto the city streets. At one intersection, he ignored a red traffic light and collided with another car. The 27-year-old driver was injured and was taken to the hospital, and the boy, frightened by what he had done, fled the scene of the accident.

“Soon law enforcement officers found him: formally it was a case of theft, but the teenager had not reached the age of criminal responsibility. However, in order to prevent new, even more dangerous acts, the prevention authority appealed to the court with a demand to place the minor in a temporary detention center for offenders. Taking into account the position of the prosecutor, the court agreed: the 13-year-old boy was placed in the TsVSNP for the maximum term for the purpose of re-education. This will help him understand that a teenage prank is not a joke,” the prosecutor’s office said.

Information about the results of work with a juvenile offender will be sent to the prevention authorities at his place of residence for further educational work.
