Convicted welders in Krasnoyarsk colonies earn up to 130 thousand rubles a month

The GUFSIN in the Krasnoyarsk Territory told how they train convicts in in-demand working professions.

Thus, from 2023 to 2025, 247 prisoners became welders. This academic year, 65 people have already completed the courses, another 109 are learning a profession, and 45 are just planning to start classes. 25 women from IK-22 expressed a desire to become welders.

On average, welders in colonies earn 80 thousand rubles, and the most qualified of them earn up to 130 thousand rubles. In 2025, they completed orders for the production of metal structures worth almost 500 million rubles.

Professions are taught in eight colonies: IK-5, IK-6, IK-27, IK-17, IK-15, IK-24, KP-19 and IK-31. The classes are equipped with equipment and simulators, classes are taught by experienced professionals. The duration of training is from three to ten months.

After graduation, convicts take an exam at a specialized center based on IK-6 and are included in the national register of specialists. Potential employers are invited to the certification, who can enter into preliminary contracts with future graduates and employ them after their release. While the convicts are in colonies, they work in the metallurgical shops of the institutions.

In total, there are 4 educational institutions, 9 branches and 10 training sites in the GUFSIN system of the region. Every year, about five thousand convicts receive one of 70 working professions that are in demand both in colonies and on the labor market. The most popular professions are welder, crane operator, machine operator, electrician, mechanic, cook, slinger and seamstress.
