Attendance, numbers and a growing increase in interest in voting
As the head of the PKW informed, 28 million 848 thousand may go in the second round of urns elections. authorized citizens. This means that the election organizers must be ready for high attendance, especially since the current presidential election in the second round has repeatedly mobilized Poles to vote. Sylwester Marciniak reminded that the attendance record in the second round of elections for the President of the Republic of Poland took place in 1995, when it amounted to 68.23 percent, in 2020 a slightly lower result was recorded – 68.18 percent.
The increase in interest in voting is also confirmed by statistics regarding voting certificates. 571 thousand of them were spent before the second round. 999, which is over 70 % increase compared to the first round, during which 333,000 were spent. such documents. The number of people deciding to vote for correspondence is also growing – 12 thousand. 76 people declared such intentions, which means an increase compared to 9,000. 698 people who voted in this way in the first round.
Location in the mobile
Rafał Tkacz, head of the National Electoral Office, reminded voters that the location of the election commission can be checked, among others in the MOBKitan application. He drew attention to special regulations regarding voting certificates that allow voting anywhere in the country or abroad. However, the voter should provide the appropriate certificate of the electoral commission and make sure that it concerns the second round of elections.
In the context of the voting organization, Tkacz pointed out that the certificates are secured by a hologram and have a unique number, which eliminates the possibility of their double use. He also reminded that voters in the polling station receive only one vote card, the model of which was tailored to the needs of the blind. In order for the voice to be considered valid, the card must be “X” in one grid next to the name of the selected candidate and the necessary seals of the election commission.
What if the result is equal?
During the conference, the chairman Marciniak also touched the rare, but theoretically possible question – what to do when both candidates get an equal number of votes? Neither the Constitution nor the Electoral Code provides for the solution to such a scenario. According to Marciniak, in this case it would be possible to decide on the organization of re -elections, referring to the situation from the resolution of 10 May 2020.
However, the National Electoral Commission remains optimistic and in full readiness for the organization of Sunday voting. Everything indicates that the Poles will learn the final result as quickly as in the May and Turn.
