Metropolitan Nikita of Krasnoyarsk and Achinsk held a funeral service for the victims of political repression in the Church of John the Baptist. The memorial service took place on October 30, the traditional Remembrance Day.
“Our Krasnoyarsk region should especially honor the memory of those who were tortured and killed, because here in the harsh Siberian region there were a lot of victims,” Metropolitan Nikita addressed the worshippers.
In his speech, he emphasized the need to remember the terrible events of the past in order to prevent their repetition.
The service was held in accordance with the decree of the Russian Orthodox Church, which prescribes funeral services to be held on October 30 in all churches.
Historical data shows that tens of thousands of people were subjected to political repression in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, and these are only documented cases.
