Ryanair relies on digital boarding passes. Paper tickets will disappear in the fall

As announced by Ryanair, from November 12, 2025, all passengers will have to check in online and use digital boarding passes. Classic paper tickets will only be available in exceptional circumstances.
“On November 12, 2025, Ryanair is moving to fully digital boarding passes. All passengers will receive digital boarding passes on the Ryanair app when checking in online, as paper boarding passes will no longer be issued“, we read in the carrier's announcement.
The new system will allow for check-in via the website or mobile application, and tickets can only be presented online during inspection. Importantly, an Internet connection will not be required to use the e-card.
Although the digital revolution comes into force in mid-November, Classic check-in will still be possible at airportsbut for a fee. “If you arrive at the airport but have not checked in online, you will be required to pay an airport check-in fee“- informs Ryanair.
In some countries, the fee for printing a boarding pass may be as high as 55 euros, or about PLN 230. An exception applies to people who lose their phone or tablet after completing e-check-in – in this case, the carrier will print their boarding pass at no additional cost.

Digital boarding passes mean lower costs and environmental benefits
Ryanair estimates that thanks to the introduction of e-tickets will save 300 tons of paper per year. The airlines argue that the new system will reduce not only the carbon footprint, but also operational costs – which in the long run may translate into cheaper plane tickets.
Experts point out that this is the next stage of digitization of the transport industry. Electronic tickets have dominated the concert and sports sectors for years, and now they will also completely revolutionize low-cost airlines.
Ryanair emphasizes that over 80 percent passengers already use e-boarding passesso the upcoming changes will not be noticeable for most travelers.
The only exception remains flights from Moroccowhere local regulations require paper documents. “Passengers on flights from Morocco must present their digital boarding pass at the airport to collect their printed boarding pass“explains Ryanair.
