New classified UFO documents released by the Pentagon show bright spheres in the northwestern US
The Pentagon on Friday released a third batch of previously classified documents on alleged UFO sightings, which include accounts of bright, sometimes red, spheres seen by people in the northeastern United States, Reuters reports.
The first two batches were released on May 8 and May 22. President Donald Trump has accelerated the release of US government reports on unidentified flying objects in a disclosure process that began in the late 1970s.
Friday's release of what the Pentagon calls “Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena” (UAP) included 72 documents from the FBI, CIA and Pentagon and contains testimony, video footage and artist renderings. Accounts from several files refer to sightings of spheres in the same general area of the northeastern United States.
A February document cites FBI interviews with two people who reported seeing an extremely bright light in the middle of their backyard one evening. The identity of the interviewees and their exact location have been censored.
One of the people “described the color red as bright and beautiful and said (censored) had never seen such a shade of red before,” according to the FBI report.
The red sphere, about one meter in diameter, contained a basketball-sized “white plasma sun” at its center, the document said.
Testimony in the Pentagon Papers about UFOs
The individuals observed a second sphere, and the two appeared to be linked together as they moved away. A few weeks later, people told authorities they saw several white spheres flying over houses at a much higher altitude, according to the FBI report.
A similar interview conducted in July 2025 referred to earlier accounts of such spheres.
“This sighting occurred less than 25 miles from where the “Triangle Orbs,'' “Red Orb Rotation,'' and “Orbs Over the Pond'' sightings were reported, in an area well known to witnesses and sparsely populated,” the FBI report states.
An incident from October 2024 describes a light source below the horizon, floating above a pond.
“The luminous object resembled a 'plasma-like sphere' that intermittently changed shape and brightness. At times, the main light source appeared to separate into smaller bright points,” according to the report.
“These documents, long hidden behind secret classifications, have fueled much speculation — and now it's time for the American people to see them with their own eyes,” Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth said in a statement.
