Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski accused Moscow on Wednesday of drawing China in his war with Ukraine, after capturing some alleged Chinese citizens fighting in the Russian army on the Ukrainian territory, AFP reports.
The Russians “draw other countries in the war. I think now they were shooting in this war,” Zelenski told a media group, including AFP. Kiev is ready to “change” Chinese captives with Ukrainian soldiers held by Russia, President Zenski added, according to Agerpres.
Chinese authorities knew that some of their citizens are recruited by Russia to fight in Ukraine, Zelenski also said, adding that he did not know if Beijing has given “an order” to send you there.
“We simply find, due to the data and details we have, that China (…) was up to date with the sending (of Chinese citizens to Ukraine, no). We do not say that someone gave an order, we do not have such information,” said the Ukrainian president, mentioning that his services have already identified at least 155 people in Russia and there are “more”.
China says it will “check” and denounce “unfounded accusations”
Beijing denounced the “unfounded accusations” of Kiev on Wednesday that “many more” Chinese citizens are fighting with the Russian forces against Ukraine, after the announcement of two Chinese soldiers to this country.
“China is in the process of checking Ukraine on this case. China's position on the Ukrainian crisis is clear and without ambiguity and it is widely approved by the international community,” Lin Jian, spokesman for the Chinese Ministry, reacted.
“I would like to point out that the Chinese government has always asked its citizens to keep the distance from the military conflict areas, to avoid being involved in armed conflicts regardless of what form and, in particular, to avoid participating in military operations, regardless of which part,” indicated the Chinese MAE representative.
