Propaganda for students in Russia

This was announced by the head of the ministry, Valery Falkov, at a meeting of the Council for the implementation of state policy in the field of supporting the Russian language. “We have four subjects that will be studied, regardless of their future profession, by all students without exception, regardless of the form and level of education,” the Interfax agency quotes the minister.

This novelty resembles the compulsory course “Fundamentals of the Soviet state and law”, which existed on Soviet universities. This subject was usually taught in the first years of studies and was part of the students' ideological preparation block. The content of this discipline included learning about the system of the Soviet state, the Constitution of the USSR and the role of the CPSU, the foundations of Soviet law, as well as the concept of socialist democracy and the rights and obligations of citizens. Much attention was paid to Marxist-Leninist science of state and law and criticism of “bourgeois” political systems.

The course “Fundamentals of the Soviet state and law” was compulsory primarily for… humanities, pedagogy and lawbut since the 1970s it was also introduced at non-law universities, including economic directions. At technical faculties, this subject was also included in the curricula, although not everywhere.

The main goal of “The Foundations of Russian Statehood” was indicated “shaping patriotism, civic attitude and sense of belonging to Russian civilization among students”. The program aims to show the “specificity of the historical path” of Russia, the “self-awareness” of its political organization, as well as the connection between a person's personal success and the “social progress and political stability” of the country. The structure of the course includes five main blocks: “What is Russia?”, “Russian state-civilization”, “Russian worldview and values of Russian civilization”, “Russian political system”, “Future challenges and the country's development”.
