“The garbage mafia must be stopped!”. Fines of hundreds of thousands of lei after Wednesday's controls in Dâmbovița

The Minister of the Environment, Diana Buzoianu, announced that in the localities of Matăsaru and Dragodana in Dâmbovița county, “an extensive control action” of the Environmental Guard took place on Wednesday.
“The garbage mafia must be stopped! Today, more than 50 commissioners from the National Environmental Guard, together with the Gendarmerie and the Romanian Police, had an extensive control operation in Dâmbovița County, in the towns of Matăsaru and Dragodana. Illegally owned waste, illegal burning of waste, illegal trade in waste. This is where we started,” wrote Diana Buzoianu, on Wednesday evening, on Facebook.
The minister specified that “24 controls were carried out”, being “contraventional sanctions in the total amount of 553,000 lei” were applied.
“Approximately 140 tons of ferrous and non-ferrous waste were confiscated”, continued Diana Buzoianu, specifying that “7 suspensions of activity of the economic operators involved” were also ordered.
She also mentioned that a criminal case in rem was also opened.
“Our fight is for clean air. All those who break the law must understand that there will be consequences for the fact that entire communities are poisoned by their actions. Such control actions will be carried out more and more often with the help of drones and new equipment purchased through PNRR”, concluded Minister Diana Buzoianu.
