Let us remind you that the prosecutor’s office uncovered a scheme in which the defendants and an employee of the housing department of the City Services Department participated. It was established that from 2020 to 2023, accomplices took advantage of the position of orphans and other socially vulnerable citizens. People who found themselves in difficult circumstances were persuaded to exchange comfortable apartments for poor housing, promising help with debts, paperwork and improvement of housing issues.

“So, in 2022, through official knowledge and deception, they convinced an orphan with a disability to agree to a deal that deprived him of normal housing. In other cases, the scheme worked according to a similar scenario – pressure, promises, substitution of the meaning of the transaction and the rapid transfer of property into the wrong hands. Formally, everything looked like a voluntary exchange, but in essence it was a planned theft under the guise of real estate assistance. The investigation also established other episodes: theft of apartments, property and funds of socially unadapted citizens,” the prosecutor’s office said.

The realtors did not admit guilt, claiming that they only provided services and allegedly acted in the interests of their principals. The court sentenced the man and woman to 5.5 years in prison to be served in a general regime correctional colony.
