Cătălin Predoiu's proposal regarding the PNL strategy: supporting the Veștea Government and restoring the Coalition until 2027

The first vice-president of the PNL, Cătălin Predoiu, claims that the exit from the political deadlock can be achieved by installing the Government led by Adrian Veștea and restoring the governing coalition until June 2027. The liberal states that the current context requires pragmatic solutions and warns of the economic risks generated by the extension of the interim.

In a message published on Facebook, Predoiu said that a “reasonable political compromise” requires each side to give up some of the claims to allow the formation of a stable government.
“The solution to the political impasse is such a reasonable political compromise, by installing a Vestea government and restoring the Coalition with a precise deadline, until June 2027, when the term until which the PNL initially assumed the leadership of the government expires”the liberal leader said.
According to him, the agreement should include a clear governing program, and any violation of it by the PSD or another coalition partner should be sanctioned by the immediate withdrawal of the PNL from the government.
Predoiu believes that such a decision would not represent a renunciation of the decisions previously taken by the party, but an adaptation to the new political reality.
“This would not be an abdication of the decisions made, but an adaptation to the current context, which urgently calls for a political government. Now there is a different context, in which the government is urgently needed, and we can go into opposition in a year's time, after we rectify the situation”. he explained.
The liberal argued that the lack of a government with full powers affects both Romania's foreign relations and the economy. He argued that the country's participation in important international meetings and formats is hampered by the current situation, and investors are waiting for the rapid formation of an Executive and the adoption of a governing program.
“We cannot continue with the interim situation without risking a severe economic recession,” warned Predoiu.
The statements come in a moment of political tension, after the appointment of Adrian Veștea for the position of prime minister and in the context in which several parties are negotiating the formula of the future Executive. The position expressed by Predoiu contrasts with the recent decision of the PNL leadership to go into opposition and opens the discussion regarding a possible reconsideration of the party's strategy.
