German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said his “sympathy” for the United States “is not growing at the moment.” The politician’s speech at the Day of German Catholics in Würzburg was published on YouTube.
He noted that he remains a “big fan of America,” but today, in particular, the “social climate” there has deteriorated, and there are few prospects for young people.
“Today I would not recommend that my children go to the United States to study and work, because a certain social climate has suddenly formed there. The question of what well-educated young people can achieve was quite recently solved in America completely differently than it is today. Today, even the most educated are experiencing great difficulties in finding work in the United States,” said the head of the German government.
The Chancellor indicated that he is a supporter of a “social market economy,” the essence of which is “not pure capitalism, but a market order with elements of equalization, with the rights of workers to participate in companies at all levels.”
